NAMES OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Throughout the Bible, the Holy
Spirit is called by a number of names which describe His character and
SPIRIT OF ADOPTION
''For you did not receive a
spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of son
ship (or adoption). And by him we cry,'Abba, Father ''Romans 8:15 (see also Galatians 4:6).
The very first work of the Holy
Spirit in our lives is to give us spiritual"birth"into
God's family (see John 3:3,5-8), and His continuing ministry in this capacity
is to testify to our new relationship and help us grow in it.
THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
As we read Acts, we discover that the Holy Spirit played an
indispensable role in the birthing of the Church (Acts 2:1-41), and in fact
throughout the entire Book of Acts. And He still plays the same indispensable
role in the life of the believer today. As Christians, it is important for us
to understand who the Holy Spirit is, and the kind of help He gives us:
HOLY SPIRIT IS GOD
The very first thing we must
understand about the Holy Spirit is that He is indeed God.
This is the mission of the church, to announce to the world the good-news of salvation. The world needs to hear the message of salvation, so they can make an eternal choice. Jesus has given the job of presenting the Gospel to those who are “Saved”.
The promise of eternity is clear in scripture; we are made in the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27). Since we are in God’s image, we are eternal, whether we like it or not. God made us this way, eternity is promised in scripture to both saved and lost.
